Coral mariculture is the process of growing and raising large numbers of healthy corals in a specialized aquarium by replicating natural coral reproduction and growth.
Goniopora spp.: Also known as flowerpot coral, we grow goniopora for the Japanese aquarium trade and for medical purposes!
Zoanthid spp.: We grow beautiful zoanthids as part of our fundraising efforts. Because Japan doesn't have a legal framework for exporting coral with a stony skeleton.
Mangroves filter out pollutants (including microplastics) from reaching the ocean, and they store at least 5x more carbon than tropical forests, which themselves sequester significantly more than temperate forests or other land-based biomes.
Mangrove ecosystems are also hotspots for biodiversity and are key enablers of coral reef health, with many reef species using mangrove root systems as nurseries.
We are evaluating ongoing mangrove conservation activities in Belize with specific attention to microplastics filtering, carbon storage potential, and biodiversity impacts of these activities.
We also include a variety of other species in our mariculture efforts, including various macro algae species, snails, and other beneficial invertebrates.
We will be introducing other bivalves, additional corals, and beneficial invertebrates as our mariculture facilities grow!
We are constantly working to correct misinformation in the marine science field, especially as it pertains to coral reefs. We also partner with local schools to provide tours for students, universities to offer internships, and other foundations to expand our impact.

We are a lean research organization, which means donations translate directly into equipment in our tanks, samples in our lab, and time in the field. This then translates into real-world solutions, such as removing microplastics and helping reefs regain their vibrancy.
In our research aquariums
Funds are used to operate our clam grow-out systems, dedicated research tanks, water testing, and the lighting and life-support equipment that keep living collections healthy.
In the field
Donations fund reef transects, eDNA sampling, and surveys that show us how wild populations and habitats are changing.
In the lab
They fund the analysis that turns our samples into usable data.
In our communities
It funds school tour tanks and public education displays that bring reef science to children and families, along with the mangrove and reef partner work that extends our impact well beyond our own facilities.
